Public hearing in Boone County draws opposition to CO2 pipelines; commissioners decline to enact moratorium

Boone County held a public hearing on May 27 regarding a proposed moratorium on CO2 pipelines. Victoria Olson, the county zoning administrator, reported that her research showed CO2 pipelines cannot currently be applied for under Boone County’s existing zoning regulations and recommended the board not adopt a moratorium for that reason.
During the hearing, seven members of the public spoke against CO2 pipelines in Boone County; one attendee provided an informational packet to the board, and one speaker described pipeline acceptance in a neighboring county. The board closed the hearing at 10:56 a.m. and did not adopt a moratorium.
Chairman Jon Lindgren and commissioners heard public concerns during the session and accepted the record of public comment. The county did not record any formal motion to adopt a CO2 pipeline moratorium in the minutes for this meeting.
