Commissioners said the mayor and chief were invited to a meeting at "Gangbridge Fieldhouse" on June 25 or 26 with police chiefs and mayors from Indianapolis and surrounding counties to discuss the spillover of violence affecting regional events. Commissioners and the chief described periodic enforcement "blitzes" with Johnson County, citing a past operation that produced about 80 arrests over two nights as an example of stepped-up enforcement.
Speakers at the meeting discussed community concerns and social-media chatter about keeping trouble out of Greenwood, and some commissioners offered personal anecdotes about family safety at local events. One participant contrasted local statistics with Indianapolis, saying Indianapolis experiences roughly 300 murders a year while Greenwood averages "one to two." Officials emphasized cooperation with neighboring jurisdictions and local prosecutorial strategies as part of the response.
The commission did not take formal action on regional coordination at the June 11 meeting; participants said follow-up meetings and interagency discussion are planned.
