Paducah adopts FY2027 budget; commissioners emphasize streets funding

The Paducah Board of Commissioners on June 9 adopted an ordinance approving the city's fiscal year 2027 operating budget for July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
City Clerk and Audra read the ordinance summary and the fund-by-fund figures as presented. The clerk read totals that the commission heard as revenues of $95,622,341 and appropriations of $116,428,475 (as read into the record). The ordinance sets appropriations and revenues for multiple funds including the general fund, 911 fund, CDBG, municipal aid, bond and capital projects funds.
Commissioner Smith asked the commission to increase the street budget as a signal to the public that the board prioritizes roads and sidewalks. He said the modest increase was intended to show the city's emphasis on ‘‘quality of life and streets.’’ Other commissioners echoed support for sustained investment in streets, noting that the city receives less state road funding than the county and relies on general fund dollars for local pavement work.
The commission approved the ordinance by roll call vote with all members voting in favor. The city manager and finance staff will implement the adopted appropriations and report progress through the fiscal year.
