Mount Lebanon to pursue fleet EV chargers at Public Works using Dukane Light make-ready program and state grant

Mount Lebanon staff briefed the commission on a plan to install fleet electric-vehicle charging stations at the Public Works site under Dukane Light's Make-Ready program and with the support of state Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant funds.

Staff said Dukane would design and install infrastructure from the power pole to the charging stations, leaving the municipality responsible for procuring and installing the charging units themselves. The municipality received a $20,000 award for charging stations; staff presented a vendor quote of $27,979 for two dual-port Level 2 chargers (80-amp), leaving an estimated municipal share of roughly $7,900 plus small contingencies for curbing and site work.

Staff stressed the installations are intended for fleet use only and would not be public charging stations. Dukane provided a preliminary make-ready estimate in the $50,000–$59,000 range for pole-to-charger site work. Procurement and shipping lead times could push installation to late 2026 or early 2027, staff said.

"We were awarded $20,000 for charging stations," staff said when describing the grant award and the rationale for proceeding despite not yet having a large municipal EV fleet. Staff noted the award and Dukane's make-ready commitment reduce the municipality's direct capital exposure and present an opportunity to begin building infrastructure ahead of future vehicle electrification.

Next steps presented: commission authorization to proceed with an agreement with Dukane Light, procurement of the charging stations, and scheduling of installation consistent with grant timelines and equipment availability.
