The Las Vegas City Public Schools Board unanimously approved a $786,219.45 contract to completely rebuild the track at Robertson High School, following the superintendent’s recommendation for Option 3.
Superintendent Ms. Sandoval said the option includes milling the existing asphalt to subgrade, reestablishing the base course, repaving with a hot-mix asphalt (SP-4) at approximately 3 inches, and then installing a structural spray (SC) surfacing system. Lone Mountain representatives described the process and said they allow roughly 30 days for the asphalt to cure before applying the track surfacing.
Contractors and district staff said the complete rebuild is intended to avoid repeated short-term repairs and to extend the service life of the facility; Ms. Sandoval noted that approximately $200,000 had been spent on temporary repairs two to three years earlier. The contract price includes sand pit restoration and carries a five-year workmanship warranty.
Board members asked whether the track and field work would be coordinated and what contingency plans existed if the timeline slipped. Contractors said schedules were coordinated to coincide and that the contractor would keep the school updated if delays emerged so the district could make alternative arrangements for events.
The board voted by roll call in favor of the rebuild; the motion passed unanimously. The district expects contractor submittals and schedule confirmations in the preconstruction phase.
