Survey finds county staff split on feeling appreciated; commissioners to share results with department heads

Haley Huffman (Admin) presented results of an employee appreciation survey that received 100 responses. Huffman said 29% of respondents reported feeling appreciated by the Board of Commissioners for their work, 31% felt somewhat appreciated and 32% did not feel appreciated. On recognition frequency, 25% said they receive recognition often enough, 33% somewhat and 42% said not often enough.
Survey respondents identified extra time off as the most meaningful form of recognition and selected a four‑hour early closure on Christmas Eve as the top choice for an appreciation event. The Board discussed suggestions such as personalized service award letters from liaison commissioners and increased verbal acknowledgment. Commissioner Nichols requested that the survey results be shared with department heads and other elected officials; staff will include a link to the survey results in the next staff newsletter.
