Jeremy Morris, Public Works, briefed the Board on damage to the Matney Bridge over the Lost River near Hill Road. Morris said an overloaded vehicle broke a stringer and the bridge is currently restricted to 32 tons because of foundation issues. He reported that 14 of 21 piles are rotted, and that the deck and all stringers will need to be removed for repair.
Morris estimated that comprehensive repairs would cost between $750,000 and $1,000,000, substantially less than an estimated $3 million for full replacement, and said a contractor with a 100‑ton crane is available locally this summer. He said staff will present a formal emergency declaration and a repair plan at a future meeting to speed engineering and contracting if the Board decides to pursue that route.
