Board accepts minutes; golf course reports membership gains, junior clinic and sunscreen dispenser donation

The Parks and Recreation Board unanimously approved the minutes of the previous meeting after a motion and second; Paul, Ray, Green and Ellis voted yes on roll call.
Jake, the clubhouse presenter, told the board memberships at the municipal golf course stand at 126 this year compared with a final total of 105 last year. He said the course hosts North Miami High School home matches, which generate spectator revenue, and listed several upcoming outings, including an "old fellas" league event scheduled the next morning and a large Crewman outing on June 28.
Jake also outlined weekday play and leagues, saying five regular leagues are running and that a junior golf clinic is planned for July 6–8 for children ages 5–14, split into three age groups with morning instruction and limited on-course play on the final day. He credited sponsor Harvey Hinkle Myers for providing snacks and T-shirts at no charge for the clinic.
On public-health outreach, Jake said the Murphy family from Peru secured a grant for sunscreen dispensers and donated one to the pro shop; "we now have a sunscreen dispenser in the pro shop…it's like a hand dispenser, like a sanitizer, but it's a sunscreen," he said, thanking the family for the contribution.
The clubhouse report also covered maintenance and amenities: Cliff and his crew serviced all 50 golf carts, bunker edging and grub-control applications were completed, and the Indiana Golf Association visited on June 1 to re-rate course difficulty (the previous rating dated from 2014). Jake said some disc-golf baskets that had been on the golf course were removed because of safety concerns and relocated to the park proper.
A member asked about sponsorship of golf-cart decals; Jake said sponsorship costs $500 per cart and includes three decals (front and two sides). On demographics and sales, Jake said alcohol orders are up compared with last year and that he has noticed more younger couples signing up for season cards, which he described as a positive sign for play and revenue.
The board did not take further formal action on the clubhouse report. The next Parks and Recreation Board meeting is set for July 9, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
