Planning board recommends native-plant requirement for major development applications

On June 10 the Red Bank Planning Board recommended that the mayor and council consider ordinance 26-20, which would require landscape plans for applications subject to major site‑plan review or major subdivisions to prioritize native plants and avoid certain invasive species.
Planning staff and Environmental Commission members described the proposal as limited in scope (applying only to larger developments and not individual single-family homes) and reliant on professionally maintained native-plant lists. The board approved a motion to forward the referral to the mayor and council and asked staff to include implementation guidance regarding which applications will be covered and which third-party lists will be used.
