The Town of Guilderland Zoning Board of Appeals on May 6 continued a public hearing on a Cellco Partnership application to install a 46-foot utility pole with a single small-cell antenna and related equipment near 215 Schoolhouse Road. Chairwoman Elizabeth Lott designated the town engineer to review the application materials and the board voted to resume the hearing on May 20, 2026.
The application was introduced during the board’s May 6 meeting, when Nicole Ventresca-Cohen read the legal notice and Julie Monahan, representing the applicant, described the proposal to place the pole and associated equipment within an Albany County highway right-of-way. The board did not take final action and instead sought technical review by the town engineer.
During the public-comment portion of the hearing, resident Robert Bubonia of 179 Vaughn Drive said he was concerned about possible radio-frequency effects on humans from the proposed installation. Chairwoman Lott said the town engineer would need to study the regulations related to radio-frequency concerns before the board proceeds.
On a motion by Chairwoman Lott, seconded by Sharon Cupoli, the board voted 5–0 to continue the hearing to May 20 to allow for the town engineer’s review. No vote on the permit or variance was taken that night. The board’s next step is the May 20 meeting, when members will reconsider the application after the engineer’s report is available.
