County approves traffic-signal maintenance contract and library board appointment

The Jefferson County commissioners approved several routine items on June 11, including a maintenance agreement for the county’s sole traffic signal and a library-board appointment.
John presented a proposed annual maintenance contract with Midwestern Electric after the county’s only traffic signal experienced a recent overnight outage. The board voted to authorize the county to enter the Midwestern Electric Traffic Signal Maintenance Agreement and sign the contract.
Judy Turpining, director of the public library, asked the commissioners to appoint Christy Aik to the county commissioners’ seat on the Jefferson County Public Library Board to replace retiring member Terry Phillips, whose term runs through June 30. Commissioners approved Aik’s appointment to a four-year term starting July 1, 2026 and running through June 2030.
Those items were approved by voice votes and did not prompt extended debate. Commissioners also handled routine consent items earlier in the meeting — the board approved May 28 minutes, accounts payable vouchers and the payroll docket by motion and voice vote.
