Following presentations from candidates seeking appointment to the District 2 alderman vacancy, the Neenah Common Council conducted ranking ballots and appointed Mark Newman to the seat.
Council members heard five‑minute presentations from nine applicants (several withdrew or were absent), including Scott Becker, Betsy Ellenburgger, Dennis KD, Debbie Lutka, Dominic Rentia, Matt Silus and Jonathan Williams. The council distributed rank‑order ballots to identify the top three candidates and then conducted a final selection vote. The top three that advanced were Debbie Lutka, Mark Newman and Dominic Rentia; a majority of council members then selected Mark Newman as their first choice.
A motion to seat Mark Newman was made by Alderman Ellis and seconded by Alderman Paul; the appointment was approved unanimously. Clerk Nagel administered the oath of office immediately following the vote.
What happens next: Mark Newman took his seat on council and will assume District 2 responsibilities and committee assignments as determined by council leadership.
