The events planned include countywide patriotic movie nights and special readings that will involve local schools, Davis said, part of broader efforts to engage youth and families in the semiquincentennial. "We've got an America 250th committee working hard to bring a lot of celebrations this year right here in Jackson County," he said.
Davis noted the courthouse at the announcement site has been in operation for about 110 years, tying the local landmark to the national observance. He also spelled out community festivities, including a parade to mark the holiday. "Wave those American flags, eat those hot dogs, and say, 'It's great to live in the United States of America,'" Davis said.
He said veterans will be honored as part of the celebrations. Davis added that more information about the schedule and activities will be provided by county staff as plans are finalized.
The county offered the announcement as an invitation to residents to join the July 4 observances and the semiquincentennial events organized locally.
