Carpenter's Village to amend IGA; new building official Dan Straight to begin taking permits June 29

Staff reported that Carpenter's Village offered to amend the village's intergovernmental agreement (IGA) rather than require the village to follow a formal 60-day cancellation process. Under the arrangement, the IGA will be amended to preserve needed services and permit processing.

A staff member told trustees that Dan Straight, identified in the record as the building official, "will be available to start taking permits as of Monday, June 29," and that Carpentersville will stop accepting permits as of Friday, June 26. The staff member said the village will post the change and update fee information on the website.

Trustees were told that Dan Straight will hold office hours in Sleepy Hollow several hours each week as a local resource, and that he has been working with Eugene and Trustee Thomas to learn the village's code. When asked whether Straight would inherit a backlog of permits, staff said they did not know and described a learning period rather than a known backlog.

The staff member spelled the building official's name for clarity during the meeting: "Dan Straight, S-T-R-A-I-G-H-T." The meeting record also noted that Trustee DeAtley will work with Planning & Zoning beginning July 1.

The IGA amendment and the building-official transition were reported as administrative steps; no formal vote on the IGA amendment was recorded at this meeting. Staff indicated they would post notice of the change and update the public about new permit fees and office hours.
