Somers officials outline two‑month Route 202 closure, detours and safety measures

"You will not be able to go past the Fireman's Field on 202 or the Somers Middle School," Scorano said, and added that Firemen's Field will be used as a staging area for construction equipment. Officials said detour routes will likely steer traffic to Route 100 and Route 35 to discourage cut‑through traffic in private neighborhoods such as Heritage Hills.
Town staff said the goal is to reopen the road before the school year starts and acknowledged the likely inconvenience to residents. Officials asked residents to sign up for the town's Code Red alert system and said they will post detour maps, timing and safety instructions on the town website and social media as details are finalized.
Residents asked whether pedestrians would be allowed through the work area; an official said the pedestrian bridge may remain but urged people to avoid the construction zone for safety because of heavy equipment.
Separately, officials noted a recent Code Red system reset and urged residents to re‑register (cell and email) to ensure they receive time‑sensitive alerts.
