Somers Town Board approves several routine items, schedules zoning public hearing

The Somers Town Board approved a series of mostly administrative and operational items during its meeting.
The board voted to declare itself lead agency for the Reese Park project environmental review and also to declare lead agency and schedule a public hearing for proposed zoning code amendments; the public hearing was set for July 9, 2026. Both votes were taken on motions that were seconded and approved by voice vote.
As add‑on items, the board approved purchase of a replacement refrigerator for the nutrition department and approved an application from Kale Farms to pursue public water‑supply improvements with the New York State Department of Health. Board discussion on the Kale Farms application noted that the farm would be an out‑of‑district bulk water customer and would pay an interconnect fee and other connection costs.
Personnel items were acknowledged: three seasonal highway department hires (Brandon Lyall, Logan Ruby and Tristan Wel) at $20 per hour effective May 12, 2026 were recorded per a May 11 memo from Highway Superintendent Nicholas Devito. The board also acknowledged the resignation of Don Penzane from the Parks and Recreation Committee effective June 5, 2026 and the retirement of Margaret Woodman, principal library clerk, effective July 25, 2026 after 22 years of service.
The consent/consensus agenda was approved as presented. Several routine announcements and community events were also read into the record, including the Race Amity Festival (June 14) and Somers’ 250th Independence Day celebration on July 1.
