The Somers Planning Board on June 10 voted to grant a 36th 90‑day time extension for the Granite Point subdivision’s regrant of final subdivision approval and associated wetlands, steep‑slope, tree‑preservation, stormwater and erosion‑control permits.
Chair Vicky Ganon moved the extension, citing Town Code section 150‑13M and town law section 276.67C; the motion carried after a roll‑call vote. Two newly seated board members abstained because they were not present at prior hearings, and one long‑standing member recorded a nay on the motion.
Engineer Tim Allen, representing the applicant (Bibbo Associates), told the board the health department scheduled retesting of lots in the previously remediated area for June 22 and that the DEC had allowed access and preliminarily deemed the site clean. "The health department has given us a date of June 22nd to test those lots," Allen said, and he said DOT permitting work will restart under the agency’s new online application process.
Board members pressed the applicant on progress. One member said the project has been under review for decades and voiced opposition to further extensions, describing the timeline as excessive. Staff and the applicant’s engineer said the next appearance should show health‑department‑witnessed septic testing and updated site conditions before moving into stormwater and other permit steps.
The extension covers the period from July 5, 2026 to Oct. 2, 2026. The board recorded the vote in a roll call; the two new members abstained, one member voted no, and the motion passed.
The board also asked the applicant to copy staff on correspondence with DOT and to provide documentation of testing progress to keep the board informed before the next scheduled review.
