LEPC hears HAZMAT training, public health and EMPG funding updates

County staff updated the Sheboygan County Local Emergency Planning Committee on HAZMAT training, public health initiatives and federal grant status on June 12.
Steve Steinhardt (Emergency Management) told the committee that next week’s reception center training in Manitowoc will require participant physicals and that a full‑scale multi‑casualty incident and mass decontamination drill is planned for June and August. He also told members that the 2025 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) award has been approved following a previously pending lawsuit; the minutes state 2026 funding is approved but has not yet been released and that the future of EMPG funding remains “a wait and see.”
Allison Butler‑Walsh, appearing for Star Grossman of Sheboygan County Public Health, said the department is finalizing a community survey, reconvening an Ebola planning group, has seen an increase in reported tick bites, and is planning fall vaccination clinics.
The updates were presented as staff briefings in the meeting minutes; no substantive policy changes or budget votes were recorded in these agenda items.
