Mendota Planning Commission holds workshop on commission role, trainings and General Plan update

The Mendota Planning Commission met Feb. 25 and received a workshop from City Planner Jeff O'Neal on the commission’s role in local land-use review, upcoming mandatory trainings and the status of the General Plan update. Chairperson Albert Escobedo introduced the item and O'Neal delivered the presentation.

O'Neal briefed commissioners on several administrative items the commission should expect in the coming weeks, including an ethics training scheduled for March 5, 2025, a sexual-harassment prevention training referenced during the meeting, the 2025 Earth Day celebration and continuing obligations under the Ralph M. Brown Act. The presentation framed those items as routine compliance and community-engagement tasks tied to the commission’s responsibilities to review land-use proposals and public hearings.

The workshop covered the Planning Commission’s processes, statutory meeting requirements and the General Plan update. Commissioners discussed the material and asked clarifying questions; no votes or policy decisions were taken during the workshop. The meeting record shows the presentation was informational and intended to prepare commissioners for upcoming hearings and plan-review responsibilities.

In commissioners’ reports, Chairperson Albert Escobedo thanked city staff for the Eastside Streetlight Project and noted signage at Marie Street informing the community of the work. The meeting adjourned at 7:13 p.m.
