Staff reported that districtwide attendance improved from about 86% to 95% year‑to‑year and that chronic absenteeism decreased from 20% to 12%. The number of long‑term English learners declined from 99 in the baseline year to 44 at the close of the current year; Sanorita Elementary showed notable ELPAC gains and a decline of 58 students at the lowest ELPAC levels. Writing performance and specific ELD interventions were cited as areas with meaningful progress.
The presentation emphasized continued investments in tier‑one instruction, MTSS implementation, dedicated EL specialists, targeted intervention and supports for students with disabilities, and family engagement strategies. Staff said they will pivot from multiple town halls to a parent conference plus a community town hall in response to parent feedback.
Trustees asked for more granular cohort tracking, comparisons of local (i‑Ready) versus state (CASP) trends, and clarity on cross‑site inconsistencies. Board members also raised classroom minutes and science instruction time, and emphasized non‑punitive supports for teachers on classroom management.
The board opened and closed the public hearing with no action taken at this meeting; staff will continue data analysis and report back during summer workshops and next steps in development of the 2026–27 LCAP.
