Veterans Service Officer John Scholtz presented a biography of Private David Janes to the Walworth County Board at its May 12 meeting, describing Janes’s military service and local burial site.
Scholtz said Pvt. Janes enlisted in the 5th Massachusetts Continental Line in 1782 and was discharged in 1783 shortly after the Treaty of Paris. Scholtz traced Janes’s lineage to Irena Janes (Bradford) and noted Janes was a grandson of a Mayflower descendant, William Bradford. Scholtz reported that Janes moved to Walworth County in 1843 and died on Sept. 29, 1848 at age 86. The biography was presented as a special order of business and required no board action.
