MIDDLETOWN — Sebastian Martin was sworn in as a Middletown police officer at the Township Committee meeting on June 8, with family present for the ceremony.
Officials administered the oath and Martin recited the standard oath of office: "I do solemnly swear ... to faithfully, impartially and justly perform all of the duties of law enforcement officer." The committee congratulated him and staff thanked Mayor, governing body, the administrator and the chief financial officer for their roles in completing the hiring process.
A township official told the committee that Martin "has been with us since December 23" and that the hiring was unanticipated; the speaker added the township filled an unexpected vacancy and that Martin had been close to being hired by another municipality in Monmouth County before Middletown’s opportunity to appoint him.
Fire Department Chief Bailey made a light remark encouraging Martin to begin field work immediately. The committee's ceremonial swearing-in was followed by immediate approval votes on several budget and ordinance items on the evening's agenda.
What’s next: Martin will be listed in township personnel records as sworn in on June 8, 2026; any departmental assignments or patrol schedules were not discussed at the meeting.
