Chair Michael Miotti to retire Sept. 1; interim appointment expected

Michael Miotti, chair of the committee and the executive director of the Washington Student Achievement Council, told members he will retire on Sept. 1 and is currently in his final 90 days in office. "I will be retiring on September 1 of this year," he said, thanking members and staff for nearly a decade of service.
Miotti told the committee the governor will appoint an interim executive director and that, under statute, the council conducts a search and recommends three names to the governor for the permanent executive director role. He said the informal search process has already started with the council’s leadership and that selecting a permanent director could take six to nine months.
Committee members and staff offered brief tributes during the meeting. Luke Minor, senior director for postsecondary affordability, and others thanked Miotti for his leadership and mentorship.
The chair’s announcement came early in the meeting as part of a director-level update; no formal action on the transition was taken during the session. Staff said they will brief the committee on interim appointment timing and onboarding plans as the process moves forward.
