The Village of Rothschild on Feb. 23 approved a three-year pavilion rental agreement to host the Wausau Shriners’ long-running ‘Breakfast with Santa’ event at the Rothschild Pavilion.
Tourism Marketing Director Dave Brula and Administrator Ryan VanDeWalle described the Shriners’ interest in relocating the event to fill a historically low-demand weekend (the Friday–Saturday after Thanksgiving). Tony Stange, representing the Shriner Group, joined the discussion. Brula said the group proposed moving the event to Saturday, Nov. 28, 2026, and asked that the village donate the Friday setup rental and permit propane cooking equipment under guidelines set by Riverside Fire District Chief Briggs.
Trustees approved the three-year arrangement, including the donated Friday setup and adherence to the fire chief’s propane-safety guidelines. Supporters said the event could generate new weekend revenue, broaden community engagement at the pavilion, and showcase the facility outside of wedding-season use.
The motion passed unanimously. The village will coordinate logistics, safety approvals and scheduling details with the Shriner Group and fire officials before the first event.
