Board and superintendent honor late principal; district highlights crisis response and student supports

Mountain View School Board opened and closed its June 11 meeting in memory of a recently deceased principal identified in the meeting record as Dr. Baragan. Board and district leaders used multiple reports during the meeting to both commemorate the principal's service and to describe how the district supported staff, students and families during the loss.
President Jacqueline Salana announced the commemoration at the outset, and trustees and the superintendent reflected on the principal's contributions throughout the meeting. Superintendent Dr. Andre thanked crisis response teams, counselors and volunteers, and described the community's memorial events and staff supports.
"Educators are a special group of people," Dr. Andre said, describing how staff postponed personal moments to "wrap around their colleagues and other students" and highlighting the personal connections staff maintained with families. He recounted anecdotal examples of the principal's kindness, including the principal sharing food with families and staff as an expression of care.
The board also recognized Torch program students during the recognition portion of the agenda; school resource officer Jonathan Islas introduced a group of students for their leadership in the program. Multiple board members thanked families, volunteers and staff for community events and the year-end work.
District staff also described a new supper program piloted at Twin Lakes and Payne, stating more than 100 students were receiving full meals as a supplement to breakfast and lunch programs. Trustees praised that and other student-wellness efforts as examples of the district's broader support network for students and families.
The meeting concluded with the board's motion to adjourn in memory of the principal, which passed by roll call. Trustees set the next meeting for June 16 and encouraged community members to stay engaged with school supports and summer programming.
