Buckfield library reports 409 visits in April, readies summer programs

At the May 19 Select Board meeting, a library representative reported activity and upcoming programs: 409 visits in April, nine new family patrons and 14 programs delivered during the period. The library has introduced an AWE learning system on public computers and now offers community passes to the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum, state parks and the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.
Library staff said the Friends of the Library purchased a botanical gardens pass and that the library will run monthly and summer reading challenges with prizes; weekly children's programs will begin in June and run through August. The library asked residents for volunteer help and ideas for programs. Board members praised the library’s work: "Kathy does a fantastic job over there," a Select Board member said.
The representative said volunteers and potential committee partners (including younger residents age 18 and older) are welcome to participate in events. The library meeting is scheduled for May 28 and staff said they will continue outreach about summer offerings.
Next steps: library staff will expand programming in June and continue recruiting volunteers and community partners.
