Bolton commission approves Sustainable CT housing worksheet, notes aging population and limited affordable units

Patrice Carson presented the Housing Data Profile and led the commission through the Sustainable CT Action 8.1.1 worksheet at the Aug. 12 meeting. The profile reported a median household income of $97,019 and a town population that is about 91% white. Carson said the school-age population is projected to decline while the population over 65 is expected to increase.
Commissioners discussed housing stock and affordability. Carson noted most housing in Bolton is single-family, with limited multifamily units, a few mobile homes and only about 20 assisted units in town. Two properties noted as having potential for senior housing or multiunit development were the drive-in and Cider Mill properties; both were identified for further consideration because of proximity to commuter transit and walking trails.
The commission reviewed the worksheet answers, suggested a few additions and approved the submission of the worksheet materials. No ordinance or funding decisions were made; the action was limited to approving the worksheet responses to support Bolton's Sustainable CT application process.
