The Marquette County Board of Commissioners on May 19 approved a professional-services contract with U.P. Engineers & Architects for up to $12,750 to provide design and bidding services for reconstruction of the Negaunee Service Center parking lot.
Facilities Manager Aaron Karlstrom told commissioners the lot is about 44,500 square feet and has been patched repeatedly; the pavement has exceeded its useful life. The selected consultant will evaluate stormwater ponding along the lot’s west side, recommend a reconstruction approach and prepare bid documents and construction assistance. Funding for consultant work will come from the CDC Infrastructure Grant.
Four proposals were received in response to the county RFP: U.P. Engineers & Architects ($12,750), Benech ($19,530), Wickwire, P.C. ($15,000), and Gourdie-Fraser, Inc. ($47,200). Commissioner Benzie moved to award the contract to U.P. Engineers & Architects as the lowest responsive and responsible proposer; the motion was seconded by Commissioner LaLonde and recorded as adopted (6-0) in the minutes.
The minutes do not include a construction schedule or an overall construction cost estimate; they record only the consultant selection and that the consultant will assist during bidding and construction.
