Board authorizes county to sign $1.2M regional Community Corrections funding application

Marquette County on June 2 authorized submission of a FY2027 Office of Community Corrections (OCC) funding application totaling $1,205,795.20 on behalf of the Marquette Regional Community Corrections partnership.
Trevor Kadlec, Community Corrections Director, said the regional program covers Marquette, Alger, Dickinson, Iron, Houghton, Baraga and Keweenaw counties and distributes funds across six programs: Pretrial Assessment, Pretrial Supervision, Moral Reconation Therapy, Opiate/Methamphetamine-specific programming, Pretrial Substance Abuse Testing, and administrative support. The requested amount also supports one full-time Community Corrections Director and one part-time coordinator. Kadlec told the Board the Marquette Regional Community Corrections Advisory Board unanimously passed the FY2027 application on May 27, 2026. The Board approved the application and authorized County Administrator Duane DuRay to sign the FY2027 OCC contract as fiduciary (motion Comm. Benzie; second Comm. Alholm); motion adopted 6-0.
Kadlec referenced Michigan’s Community Corrections Act (Public Act 511 of 1988) as the statutory authority that guides administration of comprehensive plans for Community Corrections programs.
