Marquette Sawyer Airport design amendment approved to pursue $3.8M FAA contract tower funding

Marquette County approved an amendment on June 2 to the Mead & Hunt design services agreement to cover additional design work tied to a Federal Aviation Administration competitive Federal Contract Tower (FCT) grant. Airport Manager David Erhart told the Board the airport had been listed as the recipient of $3,807,546 in intended FAA funding for ATC tower rehabilitation, covering cab and window improvements, elevator replacement and generator replacement.
Erhart said the funding opportunity would be fully federally reimbursed with no local share required, and that additional design service costs for Mead & Hunt are estimated at $302,810. An Independent Fee Estimate was in process to verify reasonableness; Erhart said results would be provided to the Board when available. The Board approved the amendment not to exceed $302,810 and authorized Chairperson Joseph Derocha to sign the agreement (motion Comm. Alholm; second Comm. Nordeen); the motion passed 6-0.
Erhart said approving the design amendment would allow the county to move efficiently to submit a final application within the deadline and begin modernization work if funding is secured.
