Residents press council on e‑bikes on sidewalks, dim streetlights and paving problems

Coach Daniel Kraton asked whether the city enforces rules against e‑bikes and scooters on sidewalks along Palisade Avenue and reported dim streetlights between the monument and Nicabbaka Road. "They continuously ride them up and down the sidewalks," Kraton said, urging enforcement. City Manager Robert S. Hoffman said the city will notify the police and parking enforcement officers and will confirm existing ordinance enforcement; he also said he would notify PSE&G about streetlights.
Jack Silverberman addressed paving work on Murray Avenue, saying the contractor (named in the record as DNS Paving) subcontracted curb work and left incomplete or improperly installed curbs and seed work, and asked that the contractor not be allowed to work again in the city. He described curb installation done in cold weather, concerns about lack of fertilization and late seeding, and warned that heavy summer storms could wash recently completed work away. Hoffman acknowledged the issues, said engineering will follow up with the contractor and that some curbing problems were discovered in mid‑May.
Silverberman also asked about an old donation dating to the 1970s; Hoffman said external auditors are conducting an extended/forensic audit, that auditors returned last week to continue locating records for a donation made more than 50 years ago and that the city is reviewing files pulled from storage.
City staff committed to follow up: police and parking enforcement will be asked to monitor e‑bikes on sidewalks, PSE&G will be notified about the streetlights, engineering staff will review the paving work and procurement files, and auditors will continue examining archived records related to the old donation.
