The Board of Supervisors approved Resolution 2025-62 adopting De Moines County’s updated pre-disaster mitigation plan, a five-year update prepared with Southeast Iowa Regional Planning. Shannon from emergency management told the board the plan inventories hazards across local jurisdictions, coordinates mitigation strategies with municipalities and school districts, and is required to remain eligible for FEMA mitigation grants.
Shannon said the plan had been updated over approximately the past year with local input and is available for public review. After a motion and second, the board voted in favor of adopting the resolution so the county can submit the plan to FEMA for final approval.
The board’s action restores the county’s compliance with the federal requirement for updating mitigation plans every five years and keeps the county eligible for federal mitigation funding that supports projects to reduce risk from natural hazards.
Next steps: staff will transmit the adopted plan to FEMA for final sign-off and make public-facing documents available on the emergency-management website.
