Health advisory council reviews new state requirements, Project ADAM and mental-health programs

Erica, the district health coordinator, presented the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) report on June 8, summarizing required meetings and program activity for the year and the district's compliance with new state requirements.
SHAC met the required four times (October, December, February, May). In October the council reviewed provisions of Senate Bill 12 requiring family notification of health-related services and availability of opt-out forms. In February, SHAC addressed Senate Bill 865 (cardiac emergency preparedness) and chose to implement Project ADAM, a nationally recognized program to develop site-based cardiac response teams and conduct drills; district staff aim to have drills and readiness work in place this summer so campuses can pursue "Heart Safe School" recognition.
The council also heard presentations on mental-health efforts (Capturing Kids' Hearts, Hope Squad) and a telemedicine program to expand access to student health and mental-health services. SHAC conducted a required triennial assessment this year, updated the district wellness plan and scheduled the next assessment for 2029.
SHAC meetings and minutes are open to the public; the coordinator reminded the board that minutes and recordings are posted on the district website and invited community participation in future meetings.
