Dawson County Board of Equalization approves minutes, defers tax-exemption hearing

The Dawson County Board of Equalization met at 8:00 a.m. July 1, 2013, in the Commissioners Meeting Room at the Dawson County Courthouse in Lexington. Chairman Jacobson called the meeting to order and County Clerk Karla Zlatkovsky performed the roll call, confirming Commissioners Dennis Rickertsen, Bill Stewart, Butch Hagan and E. Dean Kugler were present.
Chairman Jacobson announced that the current Open Meetings Act posting was available to the public and that notice of the meeting had been published in the Lexington Clipper-Herald; Zlatkovsky said the proof of publication is on file in the county clerk’s office.
Commissioner Butch Hagan moved to approve the minutes of the May 31, 2013 regular meeting; Commissioner Bill Stewart seconded the motion. The board voted unanimously to approve the minutes, with Stewart, Hagan, Kugler, Rickertsen and Jacobson voting aye.
Shortly after the vote, Chairman Jacobson recessed the meeting at 8:02 a.m. because County Assessor John Moore had not appeared to explain a tax-exemption request submitted by Ministerio International "Dios Es Amor." The board took no action on the exemption request at that time.
Chairman Jacobson reconvened the meeting at 9:49 a.m.; with no further business the meeting was adjourned at 9:49 a.m. County Clerk Karla Zlatkovsky certified that the items discussed had been included on the published agenda, that minutes were available for public inspection within the required timeframe, and that media had been given advance notice of the meeting.
The tax-exemption request from Ministerio International "Dios Es Amor" remained undecided in this session; the record shows the matter was deferred because the assessor did not appear to present or clarify the request.
