Swampscott committee honors longtime educators at June meeting

The Swampscott School Committee opened its June 11 meeting by honoring a group of retiring educators whose combined service spans decades.
Principal Miss Otto led a tribute to Peter Franklin, who has taught English and AP courses at the high school for two decades; Franklin accepted the tribute and spoke briefly. The committee also recognized Anita Papis (since 1998), Christine Morgan (27 years), Donna Kelty (35 years), Katherine Quinn (21 years), and Allison Norton (36½ years). Speakers highlighted classroom leadership, curriculum contributions, union and mentorship roles, and long-standing personal relationships with students and families.
Each retiree received remarks from colleagues and committee members; several committee members described personal gratitude for the retirees’ impact on their children and the community. The committee paused for photographs and public appreciation before moving on to the teaching-and-learning presentation.
