Board approves $234,190 supplemental appropriation to fund county capital asset inventory

The Lake County Board voted June 9 to approve a supplemental budget appropriation of $234,190 to match a grant supporting a countywide capital asset inventory and management plan. The funding will be used to develop an inventory linked to accounting systems and a multi-year prioritization of maintenance and capital projects.
Commissioner Lee described the inventory as a critical first step to confront decades of deferred maintenance: "This is a hugely important and exciting step forward for Lake County in my view," Lee said, arguing the plan will help identify what the county owns, what condition assets are in, and what should be prioritized for repair or replacement.
County manager and facilities staff said the appropriation was part of prior budget actions and that the county had been awarded the grant from the state (DOLA); once appropriated the county will work with DOLA to issue an RFP for contractors to develop the plan. The county will link the inventory to accounting software to produce multi-year budgeting projections and update the plan annually.
The board approved both the supplemental budget request and a formal appropriation (resolution 2026-24) to fund the project; staff said the next steps include recording the appropriation, receiving the award, and issuing an RFP.
