WARREN CO. R-III board: new elementary 95% watertight, occupancy targeted mid‑July

The WARREN CO. R-III School Board heard a detailed construction update from Superintendent Mr. McCairman on the district's new elementary school.
Mr. McCairman told the board that exterior work is substantially complete, with "all the concrete around the entire building" and the entrance sidewalk installed except for about "six or eight feet" where utility work remains. He said the two classroom wings and the cafeteria have their dark bronze metal roofing in place and that the building is about "95% watertight." He added that rooftop HVAC units and piping are being connected and that the district expects the rooftop units to be operational in "3 to 4 weeks," allowing interior finishes to proceed.
Inside, Mr. McCairman said kitchen equipment has arrived on site and is being uncrated and set in place around the building's utility distribution system (UDS). Electrical panels have been wired and labeled and data cabling is in place. He described progress in the multi‑purpose/cafeteria and gym — including installation of acoustical tectum and basketball goals — and said many classroom finishes (paint, polished concrete floors, lighting and HVAC diffusers) are near completion.
On site work, he noted remaining coordination with MODOT to finalize work tied to Highway 47, and that a final strip of sidewalk will be poured once a guy wire and a pole are moved. He said the contractor will wait until fall to establish turf in the play area and that final grading and installation of the flag pole basin are pending.
The superintendent projected occupancy around mid‑July, with furniture moves and early‑childhood readiness scheduled to follow. No formal action was required; the board acknowledged the update and asked clarifying questions about HVAC scheduling and temporary climate control measures during the finishing work.
The board will review any remaining change orders and the schedule as part of upcoming project oversight items and the June workshop calendar.
