Auditor proposes pared-back HR consulting and moves to reconstitute compensation board
Summary
Auditor Nita Hinrickson told supervisors the county currently spends about $1,500/month for HR consulting; a new option would bill roughly $300/hour and could reduce annual costs if usage is low. Letters to previous compensation board members produced three declines; the board agreed to reestablish the compensation board and asked the auditor to prepare a resolution and member guidance.

County Auditor Nita Hinrickson presented alternatives for human resources consulting and recommended reconstituting the county compensation board at the Sept. 24 meeting.
Hinrickson said the county currently pays roughly $1,500 per month (about $18,000 per year) for HR consulting plus additional special-project fees. She said department heads report rarely using the consultant and that a new quote would be $300 per hour with two consultants assigned to the county; if the county averaged one hour per month, the hourly model would cost about $3,600 annually. Hinrickson said she will follow up to get cost estimates for special projects.
Hinrickson also said letters were sent to seven previous compensation board members and three declined to continue service; the board agreed to move forward with reinstating the compensation board, and Hinrickson will draft a resolution and supply information describing the board’s responsibilities to prospective members.
Hinrickson noted an ad for a Facility Maintenance position had been placed in the newspaper without prior board approval; she said only one applicant had applied and that the initial application deadline was Sept. 27, 2024. The auditor offered to present future job advertisements for prior approval if the board prefers that process.
