Councilman Roland E. Williams moved to approve Resolution R2025-02 to create a 10-year non-exclusive franchise for Spectrum Mid‑America, LLC to operate a cable television system within the city; Councilman Franklin Hibbs IV seconded and the motion carried 5-0.
Councilman David Dones introduced Ordinance B2025-04 to rescind the Cable TV Programming Committee; City Administrator Aaron Boles read the ordinance in summary. B2025-04 was presented on first reading and will return for additional consideration as required by council rules.
City Administrator Aaron Boles explained the cause of a recent cable outage and told the council that all cable customers will receive a $10 credit on their next bill to compensate for the inconvenience. The council heard routine staff and committee reports following those items.
Mayor J. Richard Heaton also reminded councilmembers about scheduled photos before the next meeting and briefly discussed possible zoning changes related to medical cannabis businesses.
Resolution R2025-02 passed by the council establishes the franchise for a 10-year term; the resolution and related documents will be retained in city records.
