Lacey commission to draft native-plant recommendations, declines comment on Riverview revision and schedules May cleanup

The Lacey Township Environmental Commission on Jan. 21 directed members to develop standard recommendations for native and naturalized plants and set dates for volunteer events this year.
Commissioners reviewed materials presented at the November meeting and compared how other towns categorize plants by habitat (freshwater, upland, beachfront). Mayor Steven Kennis assigned the Commission to examine the shrubs and trees listed in the Barnegat Bay Partnership 'Going Native' booklet and to prepare specific suggestions for the Commission’s February meeting.
On planning matters, the Commission reported it received a technical review for a revised major site plan for Riverview Rentals LLC (Block 217, Lots 2-8 and Block 229 Lot 36) but determined it does not need to comment because the original plan received approval before the Environmental Commission re-formed.
Chairperson Kerry Jennings also confirmed that proposed changes to the township recycling calendar were not implemented for 2026. The Commission confirmed the Lacey Lakes Cleanup will take place Saturday, May 30, with Troop 56 assisting, and discussed a late-summer Cedar Creek float around Aug. 15. No public comments were recorded at the meeting.
