Solicitor says SRO contract language set to provide up to two officers; township to consider other administrative items

Solicitor Michael Karate told the June 10 caucus that township and school district negotiators have worked through language on a School Resource Officer (SRO) agreement and that the item will be ready for board consideration at the business meeting.
"It provides up to two officers as school resource officers," Karate said, adding that officers must complete special training and that the school district will reimburse the township for SRO services. He said the contract language clarifies that officers remain under township police control and are not employees of the school district.
Karate also noted a subdivision extension request for 0 Garfield Avenue; staff received the request on June 2 and the applicant seeks an extension to Sept. 30. The solicitor said the extension will be acted on at the forthcoming business meeting, not during the caucus. He reported the township will present a contract with Keystone Municipal Services to handle initial recruitment steps and vetting for the township manager search, and that the board will need to accept a CHB member's resignation at month'end.
Board members asked about any rate changes or material edits to the SRO contract; Karate said changes made were minor and administrative and that the officer allocation (two officers) covers middle and high schools under the proposal. No formal vote was taken during the caucus; the items will appear on the business meeting agenda.
