Pinehurst residents demand immediate priority on repeated flooding; engineer cites blockages, promises plan

Another Pinehurst resident, Ed Nowak, read a prepared statement sharply criticizing the system redesign and calling it “flawed and unacceptable.” Nowak said that after recent storms Pinehurst streets remained flooded for days while other neighborhoods were dry and asked why receiver water levels in Pinehurst sit above outlet heights.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs said he inspected Pinehurst after videos were sent by Eric Long and found debris on grates and in pipes; MRI inspected the next day, removed leaves from a grate and flushed debris from pipes. Krebs told the board that some drains in Pinehurst may have more than 25% blockage and recommended cleaning the inlets. He said crews flushed debris that was “not very compacted or solid” and planned further cleanings.
Board Chair Bob Schultz asked Krebs to prepare a written plan that details how the situation will be resolved and an estimated timeline and to provide it to the board, Eric Long and the Pinehurst NVR. Krebs agreed and confirmed MRI will clean the inlets.
