Belleville school board approves routine personnel, governance and finance items; schedules June 16 special meeting

Board President Leon called the meeting to order and a roll call showed a quorum with Trustee Santana absent. The board approved minutes from its May 20 meeting and, later in the evening, voted by roll call to adopt personnel items 71–718, governance items 91–922, purchasing items 101–1019 and finance items 111–116. The roll-call record shows Trustees Gar, Gillis, Mos, Pacheco, Vice President Dr. Misagia and President Leon voting yes on the listed blocks of items.
Superintendent Dr. Eric Alphonso updated the board on end-of-year logistics and a community survey about a school makeup day. "We received 7,720 responses, and approximately 80.1% of respondents chose June 19th as the date to be made up," Dr. Alphonso said, and recommended a half-day single session on that date. He also said a June 16 special meeting will be dedicated to reviewing resignations, retirements and potential allocations of funding to bring back staff affected by recent reductions in force.
Business administrator Mr. Ikeo presented a first reading of the district's electric vehicle charging-station policy (policy 742). He said the district has 20 chargers — two per station at 10 locations (schools 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, the middle school, the high school and the technical school) — and described public access hours as weekdays from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and weekends from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
On food services, the administration reminded families that meal accounts will remain available during the summer and that the free and reduced meal application for 2026–27 will be posted in late August. The board did not take formal action on the EV policy at the meeting; it was presented as a first reading.
The board adjourned after members offered brief congratulatory remarks to students honored earlier in the meeting and confirmed the special meeting on June 16 at 7:00 p.m.
The actions taken at the June 10 meeting were procedural approvals of recommended items; the board indicated it will continue to consider staffing restorations at the special session.
