Elkhorn committee recommends Savvas myPerspectives for middle school ELA

A curriculum committee for Elkhorn Public Schools recommended in March 2026 that the district purchase Savvas myPerspectives for grades 6–7–8 after evaluating materials from three publishers and narrowing the choices to two.
The presenter for Elkhorn Public Schools described a rubric-based review that compared Amplify ELA and Savvas myPerspectives, said committee members created curriculum maps in February using each publisher’s materials, and reported additional feedback led to the recommendation of Savvas for purchase for grades 6–8.
According to the presentation materials, Savvas myPerspectives will be used to deliver writing instruction (including the writing process and narrative, informational and persuasive genres), vocabulary and language-structure work, speaking and listening standards, and reading of prose, poetry and grade-level informational texts; the curriculum includes multiple novels at each grade level.
The presenter also outlined classroom and assessment changes planned with the new materials: students would have two ELA periods per day (referred to in the materials as ELA Blue and ELA Red) so that reading, writing, speaking and listening standards can be taught across both courses and students have more time to master standards. The presentation states that, because of the expanded reading requirements, the district will no longer use Accelerated Reader to assess independent reading and will instead use other programs to encourage independent reading.
The slide deck cites Policy 603.01 (Curriculum Development and Adoption), which the materials summarize as assigning responsibility to the superintendent to keep the board apprised of curriculum changes and to develop administrative regulations and recommendations to the board. The presenter said the next steps include finalizing recommendations, creating curriculum cards and vertical maps, preparing a TIPP grant application, and presenting the vertical maps and curriculum cards to the Board Curriculum Committee for approval in Spring 2026.
