Area Learning Center to become White Bear Lake Area High School Manitou Campus, staff recommend

Assistant principal Jenni Sjosten described the naming process: staff first generated a list of over 30 candidate names, the list was narrowed to two top choices, and staff, students and community members polled those options. A Name Change Committee worked to reach consensus. The recommended new name is "White Bear Lake Area High School Manitou Campus." Sjosten said the committee selected Manitou because it speaks to community roots and a spirit of inherent value and purpose that resonated with students and staff.
Board members praised the approach and the graduation stories that highlighted the school's role; Member Skaar expressed disappointment that he was not consulted but did not block the recommendation. Staff said no formal board action was required for the endorsement.
