Pickens County honors staff, partners and state‑champion baseball team

The Pickens County Board of Education used its June 11 recognition period to honor school leaders, community partners and student athletes.
Assistant Superintendent Chris Parker presented the district's Dragon leadership awards — chosen by peer vote — and recognized Dr. Angie Cretchar (principal, Hill City), Miss Ann Long (assistant principal) and Jacob Pool (district leader) as this year's leadership award recipients. Parker also highlighted partner education work that helped expand district events and thanked several volunteers and partners who provided in‑kind support, citing Drew Dutton and the Tutton group for underwriting food, event logistics and the teacher‑of‑the‑year gala.
The board gave a special recognition to Pickens High School's baseball team for winning the GHSAA 3A state championship, noted a recent honor at Truist Park and acknowledged local business support (Coca‑Cola United in Jasper) for commemorative bottles and player gifts. Coaches and players were invited to the dais for photos and applause.
The recognition portion of the meeting concluded before the board moved to regular reports and votes.
