Board to consider resolution urging relief from rising employee health-care costs and joins regional funding talks

Board President Watson told the Voorhees Township Board of Education that the district received a sample resolution from a New Jersey School Boards Association representative (Lori Banlow) urging relief from rising public-school employee health-care costs; the board recommended placing that resolution on the May/June agenda for formal adoption and, if adopted, to send certified copies to legislators as Banlow requested.
Watson said the sample resolution is tailored to the district’s legislative district (district six) and that the recommended next step after adoption is to transmit a certified copy to legislators’ district offices and to CC the NJSBA representative to allow regional tracking of progress in Camden and Gloucester counties.
The president also described outreach to a New Jersey Fair Funding Collective that Haddon Township board president Kelly Hinkle has led; the collective convened representatives from multiple districts to compile legislative recommendations addressing state-aid formulas and extraordinary-aid calculations. Voorhees representatives said they asked to be included in future communications and expected fall advocacy efforts.
Board members did not adopt the resolution during the presentation; Watson said the resolution was placed on the agenda for a later finance item and the board recommended review by the appropriate staff and counsel before transmittal.
