The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve a $57,000 geotechnical soil investigation with Terra Testing to add the O.L. Slaton site to ongoing testing, the district said at a called meeting reconvened from closed session.
Dr. Anderson told trustees the work is an extension of previous geotechnical testing and is specific to the basement area at O.L. Slaton, and she said the testing is required to ensure soil conditions are suitable for pouring a slab. "This is Terra Testing, which is a $57,000 geotechnical soil investigation process," Dr. Anderson said, adding the contract amendment is necessary to keep tight construction timelines and that the work will be paid from bond funds.
Before the board recessed to closed session, public commenter Phyllis Gant Gambles told trustees she was concerned the community had not received sufficient notice for the called meeting and that agenda item 4 could affect the O.L. Slaton property. "Why the community didn't get more notice than this?" Gambles asked, saying not everyone can access the online agenda.
Board members moved and seconded the purchase as presented and approved it by a unanimous show of hands, 6-0. At the meeting Dr. Anderson noted O.L. Slaton had not been included in previous geotechnical testing and that adding it would align that site’s schedule with other projects.
The board did not provide additional contractual details at the meeting beyond the dollar amount and the scope (basement-area geotechnical testing). With no further business, the board adjourned at 7:58 a.m.
