Commissioners recognize local teachers and student for awards

The Tuscarawas County Board of Commissioners used part of its April 15 meeting to recognize local educators and a student science fair winner.
Ian Morrow of Newcomerstown High School was honored as Outstanding High School Teacher; Superintendent Jason Peoples and Principal Grant Fauver offered remarks praising Morrow’s teaching, mentorship and community involvement. Hayden Dakin, a Newcomerstown High School student, received Best in Show in the school’s spring arts/science fair for a multi-chamber microbial fuel cell project; his teacher Steven Pritchard and his parents commented on his initiative and experimentation. Commissioners congratulated both honorees and encouraged Hayden’s interest in future study and possible patent law work.
Later in the meeting, Carrie Kunkle, a Fine Arts teacher at Claymont High School with 21 years’ experience, was recognized as Outstanding High School Teacher; Principal Amy Conn described Kunkle’s work inspiring students and community involvement. The Clerk read each recognition into the record and the board approved formal resolutions of recognition for each honoree.
These recognitions were ceremonial; no council action beyond adoption of resolutions of recognition was recorded.
