Commissioners authorize county participation in ODOT road salt contracts

The Tuscarawas County Board of Commissioners on April 15 authorized the county to participate in the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) 2024 road salt contracts.
The resolution, moved by Commissioner Chris Abbuhl and seconded by Commissioner Greg Ress, authorizes County Engineer Doug Bachman to enter the ODOT contract under Ohio Revised Code 5513.01(B) and accepts the contract’s terms. Among the terms listed in the resolution, the county agrees to be bound by ODOT-established contract terms, to resolve its own claims or disputes with the awarded salt supplier, to purchase a minimum of 90% of electronically submitted salt quantities from its awarded supplier during the contract period, and to pay suppliers on a net-30 basis.
The resolution also notes a rescission process: a county decision to rescind participation must be submitted in writing and emailed to ODOT’s purchasing section by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, and it is the county’s responsibility to ensure receipt.
The board voted 3–0 to adopt the resolution. The authorization allows the county engineer to place electronic orders consistent with ODOT award procedures.
